Flotilla Commander's Welcome

Welcome to the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 12-07 website. On behalf of the men and women of 12-07 we hope you find its content informative and enlightening.

The role of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, is to assist the Coast Guard in its performance of its civil functions. As an aviation flotilla, the primary missions of 12-07 are Marine Domain Awareness (MDA) -- daily patrols over the waterways of the New York region to help assure maritime safety, Search and Rescue (SAR) -- to aide those in distress on the waters, and Ice Patrol (IP) -- to assist commercial waterway navigation during the winter months. These missions, along with promoting good recreational boating behaviors, have one overriding goal; to assure a safe, secure marine environment.

12-07 welcomes all of those with aviation skills or interests, a sense of national service, and a willingness to give generously of their time to consider joining the flotilla. Our members are a highly educated, dedicated group of professionals from a variety of fields (law enforcement, medicine, higher education, government and business) most, but not all, with considerable aviation experience. While approximately half the membership consists of pilots (private, commercial, and ATP's), the flotilla welcomes all who are willing to lean and commit time to acquiring knowledge of the airways and waters.

It is also important to note that along with the rewards of serving one's country and community, is the incredible sense of esprit de corps enjoyed by our members. We all share a deep sense of fellowship, forged by our understanding and respect for the traditions of the sky and sea. We are proud to be a part of the United States Coast Guard and to share in its rich heritage.

For those of you interested in joining us and learning more, we invite you to attend one of our flotilla meetings, held the second Thursday of every month at Republic Airport. Simply send us an email with your intention to attend and we'll send along specifics. Pleased be assured of the warmest welcome.

Semper Paratus!

Sincerely,

Frank Hippel
